Reviews

Good starts. Lots of potential. Let's remember that the Jriver we love was crafted over many years. If they give this app the attention it deserves, I'm hopeful that it will become top notch. That said, it is evident in a few ways that they have more work to do.

Solid start Promising beginnings of a good app (compared to the very dated Gizmo) to connect to what is unquestionably the best media centre software around. Lock screen and notification panel support would be greatly appreciated; I'll update this review with any further suggestions/bugs.

  • May 9, 2015

Great improvement over Gizmo Brings full function control of Media Centre and streaming to Android.

  • May 8, 2015

Problems with what i not had with Gizmo Slow, sluggish, respons time horrible on pressing any function button, CPU usage and juice wasting terrible, crashes sometimes. BUT I'm shure you made it and it's getting better! [Note4, Android 5.0.1]

  • May 7, 2015

Great app for JRMC users. Still a few minor things to work out. Will get 5 stars once video works better. Looking forward to when this becomes more than a player and also works as a remote for JRMC.

  • May 6, 2015

Great! Great! Great app, I can't seem to get back to the now playing list after I browse away. Haven't experienced many bugs, flac streaming works great. Video is good, a bit slow.

  • April 22, 2015

Fail The Mac version of this app is great, but there are so many bugs with the Android version it's hard to know where to start. Zone handling hardly works. Search within your current zone doesn't work. Playback to the phone is spotty. Choosing a new playlist and expecting it to start right up is a fool's game. It's like a colorful version of Gizmo, with more bugs. This should not have been released yet. I really hope they plan to put the resources into getting parity with the iOS version.

  • April 19, 2015

Definitely a step up from Gizmo I have not experienced many bugs. The selection for "keep screen on" does not work though. There are some albums that I have more than one version and with Gizmo I couldn't tell the difference without renaming the files. I no longer have to figure out the difference between the HD Tracks and my ripped AIF versions by playing a track. Good app, just needs to work out the kinks.

  • April 17, 2015

Pretty Good Works pretty good. The UI is more polished than gizmo. It seems like some of my playlists are incomplete. I am using the Linux version of Media Center now. Love JRiver so I had to get this. Hope for continued development of this app and Linux version of MC.

BEEN WAITING FOREVER!! Finally, Gizmo works great but it has always been missing the feature set of this app. Little buggy at the moment though, stops playing randomly on song change when streaming to the phone. Really need that lock screen support, missing it for my s-view case! I'm sure the updates are coming though, switched back to Gizmo for now until then.

Its so easy to use Loving it

  • April 26, 2015

Nice to have an Android version It is nice to get the Android version of this app. I've used the iOS on an iPad for a while. The UI in the Android version is not quite as nice as the iOS counterpart. I do think it's better than gizmo.

  • April 13, 2015

Good to see cross platform! I have owned the iOS version for several years now and have truly enjoyed it. The Android Version is a welcomed addition. I am looking forward to see the app develop and grow in its capabilities. It is not yet the total app that it is on iOS but I'm sure that it will get there and quickly, I hope! Great and stable first release Beats Gizmo and all the other remote control apps hands down and its not done yet! Love this app for remote control of JRiver Media!

  • April 16, 2015

Keep up... ... the good work!!!! For tablet usage the album thumbnails must "grow" larger... They look very small on my N7.

  • April 7, 2015

Unstable Sorry, but it causes MC to crash and has numerous bugs. It can't be used for more than a couple of albums before something goes south. BubbleUPnP is way superior for controlling MC. Maybe they'll get it right but in the meantime I know what I'll be using.

A huge improvement over Gizmo (which I have loved). The ability to pull up metadata on songs, and the swipe-left from "Now Playing" to the current playlist are great. So far I haven't experienced any of the glitches others have mentioned except that "Artist Bio" doesn't seem to work, and the progress bar in Now Playing doesn't always keep up with the song. Other than that everything works well. (I use the app for music only, so I can't speak to issues with video or other functions.) I would like to see the ability to enlarge thumbnails -- they may look good on a phone but on a 7" tablet they're a bit small. I probably wouldn't spend $7 on a "beta" app from anybody other than JRiver, but I think this one is worth it. **UPDATE* -- The most recent update to JRemote now allows resizing of thumbnails. Thanks guys and add a star

Unusable Horrendously slow on my tablet , unresponsive to button presses

Very slow It's quicker to get up and use the touch screen on the pc (connected to the DAC). Selecting an album~20 seconds wait; Trying to open an album to select a track either just hangs, or incurs another ~30 seconds wait to make your pick. Albeit this is whilst upsampling output to DSD256. Nevertheless, eos remote app processes the exact same commands in about 8 seconds.

  • April 2, 2016

YES! Chromecast Great, use this everyday. Edit: spoke too soon, plays a few tracks and then crashes.

  • Feb. 25, 2016

No "now playing" Playlist view Why is there no "now playing" Playlist view

  • March 5, 2016

Perfect complement to Jriver Media center. Love it x10

  • March 21, 2016

No way to add to Playlist!! I like it but sorry I had to request a refund. For a well executed app how did anyone exclude the ability to add currently playing track (on the server) to the server Playlist. For that I still need to return to my PC. Hope someone wakes up to this and 5 stars will be a no brainer. Update: Figured how to add a playlist. Now please SUPPORT CHROMECAST and it's a 5 star app!

  • Feb. 14, 2016

Includes controls for navigating Theater View.............No, It does'nt. Jriver said it was going to be included at a later stage.still waiting. and again, been months nothings changed.Support for this app appears to have waned.

  • Feb. 12, 2016

No Chromecast Repost: Dec 2015, still no Chromecast, now rating 1 star. Works great on my Google Flex, but still no Chromecast. Was promised, very disappointed. Have to use the FREE gizmo for Chromecast, sad. MC21 talking about an app, is it yours, will they beat you?

  • Dec. 31, 2015

Needs more features for the hefty price Gizmo does 95% of what this does and is free. Useless at sorting TV series. Just get Gizmo, save your money.

  • Feb. 21, 2016

No Chromecast as promised. Gizmo works better streaming away from house.

  • Nov. 21, 2015

No theater view support Gizmo does this but is very basic

  • Nov. 27, 2015

Keep up... ... the good work!!!!

  • Feb. 1, 2016

Better than Gizmo Looks better than Gizmo however it doesn't show dates correctly on the info screen. Hope they fix it soon. JRiver Mediacenter is highly recommended.

  • Oct. 18, 2015

Sorry but it is not worth the money. Other cheaper remotes are much better.

  • Dec. 8, 2015

Love it I love jriver and this app is a wonderful and much needed companion . There is room for minor improvements but very happy with my purchase. Thank you.

  • Nov. 19, 2015

Love this app!

  • Dec. 24, 2015

Nice to have an Android version They've steadily made improvements to the application, and the performance has gotten better. It's a little closer to the iOS version now. Everything is very snappy and smooth on my Nexus 5, but it's a little sluggish on my Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. Jremote is a must have if you run jRiver as a server.

  • July 22, 2015

Everything a DIY HTPC guru would want! Works as advertised! A little pricey for a music streaming app that doesn't have an offline cache option. If such a feature were to be included who would need a pay subscription music service? Just VPN to your home computer.

  • July 22, 2015

Better than Gizmo, but much slower JRemote adds a much needed improved interface and more options compared to the Gizmo app for JRiver's Media Center. But it's really slow at sending commands to the server and updating the apps screen with playing now info. So much so that I still use Gizmo as my primary app. I keep JRemote installed when I need a bit more control for something. Hope the response speed can be fixed up in the future.

  • July 25, 2015

Brilliant! The best app for controlling the best music server IMHO.

  • July 10, 2015

Does most things well It is generally great, but I would really like to be able to change the default action of tapping an item to 'append to playlist' rather than play all from tapped song. And I mean append tapped song rather than the whole album! So I can create playlists made up of songs from lots of different albums.

  • Sept. 22, 2015

Very good remote app for Jriver MC I also use BubbleUPNP and Gizmo with Jriver MC. Jremote beats them.

  • Aug. 29, 2015

Compared to the iOS version, this one is horrible. JRemote on an iPad is wonderful, but the Android version is really bad. Why on earth did they not choose to use the same intuitive and well functioning user interface? I don't get it and the Android version lacks so many things that works perfect on the iPad.

  • Dec. 6, 2015

Fantastic, simply fantastic! Used this now on a couple of different mobile platforms and still love it. Best functionality of any of the apps that interface with Jriver media centre, and since upgrading to Media Centre 21 its even faster than ever to connect to and browse my library. Highly recommended app that has ease of use, easy setup and allows me the freedom to take all my music with me everywhere. Thank heaven's for all-you-can-eat data plans!

  • May 23, 2016

Needs more features for the hefty price Gizmo does 95% of what this does and is free. Just get Gizmo, save your money.

  • April 21, 2016

Lackluster at best Surprised. Gizmo is free and does pretty much the same things. Expected much more for the price.

  • May 2, 2016

Finally reached its potential Haven't used it for awhile, but was pleasantly surprised over how good it's got. Chromecast works beautifully!

  • May 10, 2016

Sorry but it is not worth the money. Other cheaper remotes are much better. And it is now no longer under active development as the guy responsible for writing it has left the company

  • Aug. 20, 2016

Disappointing This doesn't seem like a better offering then eos or even gizmo. It's just a different look or template. I would call this app LAZY. This can't be the app that Apple fans were ecstatic over.

  • Sept. 3, 2016

High price for an incomplete app. Gizmo is free and nearly works the same. Images still not properly supported on devices and Google Cast. Bought BubbleUPnP for only 3,99 and it works like a charme. Shame On you J.River.

  • June 11, 2016

No Volume Levelling. Great for video but forget about streaming your favourite music compilations because this lacks the replay gain of even the most basic android player . If your using to stream audio forget it

  • July 26, 2016

Just OK Need ability to download files and sync ratings, number of plays etc...

  • July 21, 2016

Better than Gizmo, but also $10 more expensive. Has a lot of potential, but lacks some really obvious functionality like being able to see the current playlist. Doesn't remember your place in the library hierarchy well either, so you're constantly re-navigating. Also, no controls in the pull-down menu.
